While most Attributes will be added during initial implementation, there may be times, like when new Document Types, Applications or Entities are created, that a new Attribute is needed.
Navigate to Setup -> Data -> Attributes and select +Add from the top menu.
All fields marked with an *asterisk is required.
- Display Name: Name of the attribute. Note: Column Name will be populated by the system.
- Data Type will default to String, which can accommodate numbers and letters. Select Numeric if the new attribute's values will be only numbers, Currency if the values will be dollar amounts and DateTime if the values will be calendar dates.
- For Currency, Numeric or String Types, a Data Length will also be required. How many characters will the attribute's values equal? Over-estimating is better than under-estimating.
- For Numeric Data Type attributes, a Data Scale is also needed.
Placing a checkmark for Computed will allow the attribute to use a computed formula to automatically populate its value. It must be marked here in order for the field to be available later. The formula is entered at the Application level- see this article for details on how this works: How to use a Computed Attribute
NOTE: Once you have clicked Save here, only Display Name and Data Length can be modified later.
Once saved, it will appear in the main list of Attributes.
Clicking on its name will open the details.
The General tab contains the naming and data details. Clicking Edit will open some fields to make changes. Note: The Column Name will not change, even if the Display Name is edited.
Under the Document Types tab, the attribute can be added to, or deleted from a document type.
Note: Attributes can be added from the Document Type details as well. See this article for more details: Creating New Document Types
