Support for IE 11 & MS Edge Legacy Being Dropped

In August of 2020, Microsoft announced that Microsoft 365 apps and services will no longer support Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) by August 17, 2021.

In addition, since the new Chromium Based Microsoft Edge has shipped and most Windows 10 customers have been updated to the new browser, they are also dropping support for the Microsoft Edge Legacy desktop app on March 9, 2021.  After this date, the Microsoft Edge Legacy desktop app will not receive new security updates.

In reaction to these announcements, Identifi has made some key decisions about our product’s compatibility and support with these products. 

• Microsoft Edge Legacy: Identifi will drop support for Microsoft Edge Legacy after the 9.2 release, which becomes available on 6/20/2021. 
• Internet Explorer 11: Identifi will drop support for Internet Explorer 11 after the 9.4 release, which becomes available on 12/12/2021.

This does not mean that our product will stop working on these browsers however new Identifi functionality may not work or may provide a degraded experience.  We do recommend that if you are still using these browsers that you develop a plan to move off them.  In addition, this means that no minor bugs or cosmetic issues will be fixed specifically for Internet Explorer.

We feel this move is necessary for a couple reasons.  Microsoft released the Edge browser in 2015 as a replacement for IE.  With Edge being the future and Internet Explorer no longer receiving major updates, continuing to support these products can hinder our ability to implement complex features and can limit our technology choices. Also in recent years, we have seen a number of defects that are present in “IE only” therefore our support costs and time has increased.  This affects our ability to deliver a reliable product to our customers.

Identifi recommends using either Chrome or the new Microsoft Edge (Chromium based) for the best user experience with our product.  These browsers will be the certified and supported browsers as of 9.4.
